Tarkov trader levels are the main mechanic for restricting the best equipment, ammunition and weapons from players that make learning how to level up traders a critical piece of game knowledge. With the optimisation of this process players will be able to access everything in EFT faster which provides a combat advantage. This guide provides tips and tactics to reach maximum trader level to unlock the full vendor inventory and barters.
Drawing from my personal journey through six game wipes, I’ve efficiently reached max level traders, accumulating Rouble wealth and achieving the coveted Kappa Secure Container. In addition to my personal recommendations, I’ve included several community resources to optimise your trader levelling experience regardless of your Tarkov experience level.

Tarkov Trader Level Requirements
Each trader has 3 attributes that need to reach all specific thresholds (PMC level, reputation and total transactions) before you will increase the trader loyalty level (LL) which progresses from level 1 to level 4. At each level extra trade inventory for purchase or barter becomes available with a progression curve towards more powerful equipment. Fence is the only exception to this rule as his reputation is tied to the Scav Karma system instead.
The trader thresholds are:
- Player PMC level: Based on your PMC experience gained primarily from raids and quests and the level for max traders is 42.
- Reputation with the trader (‘Standing’): Earned from trader quests and daily/weekly operational tasks. Some quests like Chemical Part 4 will have negative standing impacts on some traders.
- Total transaction value (‘Spent’): The sum of all money spent and value of items sold to a trader.

How To Level Up Traders
Quests are the main source for players to gain PMC levels and trader standing which is relatively straight forward given quests are central to the Escape From Tarkov gameplay loop. While this also helps with reaching the total transaction requirements this threshold is generally the one that will lag behind and restrict your ability to progress Tarkov trader levels particularly for the traders you use less often like Peacekeeper, Skier and Jaeger.
For total transaction requirements players can do the following:
- Barter trades, repairs and insurance costs all contribute to the total transaction value which means players can use these for a boost to this requirement which might not be obvious at first.
- For barter trades players don’t necessarily need to use the items they have bartered for as after the barter trade is complete you can sell it straight back to the trader for even more total transaction value. Interestingly there are some barters that can even turn a small profit after you buy the items from the Flea Market and then sell the item although this is dependant on the market. Using a tool like Tarkov Dev that includes a buyback ratio on all items is invaluable for this method.
- If players have sufficient stash space you can consider pre-purchasing equipment for future raids or trying different equipment than your normal loadout that is sold by the trader you need to level. Ammunition is one of the best options for this tactic given it only requires a small amount of space and players will quickly use it.
- Purchasing items from the Flea Market and selling them to traders for only a small currency loss and sometimes even a small gain can rapidly level up traders. For specific item recommendations refer to my what to sell trader guide or reference the Tarkov Dev website noted above.
