Copa America 2024 Golden Boot Odds: Lionel Messi, Vinicius Jr. Among the Favorites (2024)

The Copa America returns to the United States in 2024, and it's sure to be an exciting tournament. We have the best North American teams involved, with the heavy hitters from South America also in the mix.

The tournament will run from June 20th to July 14th, and there are plenty of ways we can bet on the action via FanDuel Sportsbook's Copa America odds. Outside of the individual games, we can bet on who will get out of the group, who will make the knockout round and who will win it all.

Today, let's look at the odds to win the Golden Boot. This is given to the player with the most goals in the tournament. This market is littered with big names and talented players, so it's a fun one to speculate on.

Here are the Copa America Golden Boot odds as listed on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Copa America Golden Boot Odds

Lionel Messi, Argentina (+300)

It's not much of a surprise that Lionel Messi is the favorite to be the leading scorer at this tournament.

Messi -- who will handle penalties and free kicks -- tied for the most goals the last time this tournament was held in 2021, and he finished second back in 2016. In MLS this season, he has 12 goals in 12 games, showing that he definitely still has it.

Argentina are the defending champions and favorites to win the tournament (+170). This is great news for Messi's goal-scoring chances, and he also could score goals in the group stage.

In Group A, Argentina will face Chile, Peru and Canada. This isn't the same Chile team that won the Copa America back in 2015 and 2016. They are ranked 42nd by FIFA. The best team that Argentina will face in the group is Peru, who are 32nd. Canada is making their first appearance in this tournament and is ranked 49th in the world.

The group games should give Messi the opportunity to score a lot of goals. That would definitely go a long way toward him winning this trophy. I certainly don't like betting against Lionel Messi, and these odds seem fair.

Vinicius Jr., Brazil (+470)

Fresh of scoring the deciding goal in the Champions League final, Vinicius Jr. will star for Brazil in the Copa America this summer.

After the Champions League final, there was talk about if Vini can be considered the best player in the world. Maybe it's a little bit of a stretch, but he deserves to be in the conversation. He particularly tends to deliver in big moments, which has painted a nice picture for his reputation.

Vinicius hasn't been able to do it for Brazil -- yet. He has just three goals in 28 games but nine of those were off the bench. He'll be the main man now that Neymar -- due to injury -- is not going to be with the team, which could mean penalty duty for Vini.

Brazil has a group that consists of Columbia, Paraguay and Costa Rica. Columbia will be a tough matchup, but Paraguay and Costa Rica rank 56th and 52nd in the world, respectively.

Given Vini's goal-scoring record with Brazil, these odds seem too short, but if Brazil go deep in the tourney, he should be in the mix to lead the tournament in goals. They are the second-favorites to win the tournament (+220), so it's not unreasonable to think Vini can be a big part of their charge towards the final.

Darwin Nunez, Uruguay (+650)

Ah, the curious case of Darwin Nunez.

He has to be considered one of the most chaotic and unpredictable players in the world. Sometimes you get moments of brilliance, and sometimes he leaves you scratching your head.

Nunez led the Premier League with 4.70 shots per 90 minutes this past season. He tied for second in league in players underperforming their expected goals (xG). According to FBRef.com's xG model, he finished with 5.3 goals fewer than expected.

But in this tourney, it may help that he will be the focal point for Uruguay, something that isn't really the case for him at Liverpool. In his international career, Nunez has eight goals in 22 games.

Uruguay benefit from a favorable group, giving Nunez a chance to make a lot of noise early on. They'll play the USA, Panama and Bolivia in the group stage. Bolivia is by far the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, sitting at 85th in the FIFA rankings. The other teams shouldn't give him too much trouble, either.

There is a world where Nunez becomes more clinical in his finishing, Uruguay gets to the final and he is the leading scorer of the tournament. The +650 odds aren't too great -- I'd like closer to +1000 -- but it's not the worse bet you can make.
